Thank to everybody who replied to my message!!!!

Finally, I solved the problem by just replacing the drive with 40 GB IBM
Deskstar, which does have the "32GB limit" jumper. With this jumper set on
the drive works OK.

The WD should have it too.
They apparently don't label it as such but they have what they call
an 'alternate jumper setting' for drives bigger than the bios limits.
