Problem sending attachments - garbled

hello

I am using Outlook 97.i have a problem whenever i am sending a attachment to client he receives garlled whether it is snpshot format or pdf. I am in Uk and he is in USA. I have MIMIE format in my mail setting but still he does not receive in correct format. Please help me. I really appreciate your help.
