problem selecting pst folders for backup

G

gvm

I downloaded the backup program from the microsoft website (Outlook
2007/2003/2002 Add-in: Personal Folders Backup) and installed it OK.

But when I select fle/backup/options, I can't select the folders to be
backed up. I have tried selecting mailbox and folders at lower levels, but I
still get the message that no personal folders have been selected.

How do I select the folders for backup please?
TIA ... Greg

Unless you actually use a PST, this add-in is pointless. It's purpose is to
make copies of PSTs. You said you are using a "mailbox", which implies you
have an Exchange account. Many people using Exchange do not use PSTs. Can
you tell us if you are using a PST or not?

Thanks for your reply Brian; I'm not sure but I do know that I have a large
..ost file that is updated when I close down outlook so maybe I don't have pst
folders. I just want to create local backup of my outlook information. Is
there a way? TIA ... Greg

Your Exchange administrator should be making your backups. That's the best
way. S/he can recover your mailbox in the event of server failure.

If you want a local copy, then create a PST with File>New>Outlook Data File
and then copy each of your folders to that PST. Close the PST in Outlook when
done and that's your local copy.
