problem saving word 97 data to a win200 server

We have just installed 2 new machines running Win XP and Office 97. They are connected to a server running server2000.

When a word document is created and an attempt is made to save the file to the network drive on the server, and error occurs saying the disk is full or not accesable, when the OK prompt for the retry is pressed the save works fine.

This doen't seem to be a time out problem, as it occurs randomly and sometimes immediately after a successful save.

This problem occurred frequently in Word 97. Word
sometimes had problems saving to network drives,
especially on Netware 3/4.x. Be sure the network drive
allows change and delete permissions. Word creates temp
files and must be able to delete them. You can change the
temp file location in the options menu in Word so that it
saves temp files to the local drive. Also, check to see
if you can find updates for Word 97 on the Microsoft
site. Other items to check are to make sure the drive is
mapped and you're not just passing the UNC path. If the
drive is mapped, try saving to the UNC path. If you're
saving to a UNC path, try mapping the drive. Check out KB
articles 108918 and 171406 for UNC info and for setting
file locking on the server. This problem was a bug in
Word 97 but and I think it was fixed in Word 2000.
