Problem saving embedded .gif or .jpg (.bmp only option)

Michael

(Sorry for crosspost (& repost - first had error)- also posted in
"microsoft.public.outlook")

I've seen this question posted a half dozen times, and I've yet to see
a solution.

Problem:
When an animated .gif (ditto for .jpg) is embedded in the body of a
message (Outlook 2002 (Windows XP (home) with Office XP 2002) - I'm
NOT using Outlook Express), the ONLY option I have for saving the
embedded .gif (or .jpg) is in .bmp format - no other option is
available.

(See attached screen print for clarification.)

I have deleted all Temp Internet Folders & files;
I have cleared Internet History folders;
I have the latest version of Internet Explorer (& latest patches,
updates, and Service Pack) installed. I've updated Windows XP

What is causing this? More importantly, WHAT can one do to fix it
(what can one do so that embedded .gif, or embedded .jpg pictures can
be saved in their original & correct format (as opposed to the .bmp
only option availavle)?

Thank you for reviewing this message.

Clearing the Temporary Internet Files folder will solve the issue in most
cases. If not then you must look for damaged plugins;
Control Panel-> Internet Options-> tab General-> button Settings...-> button
View Objects...
Then look for objects named with only numbers or marked as damaged and
delete them.
Restart the computer and see if it works now. If not; please continue in an
Internet Explorer newsgroup;

As I stated, I did clear the TIF without results. I also saw the
previous replies to this issue regarding checking for damaged objects
- there are none. Lastly, (others have said this as well:) this ONLY
occurs with embedded images in Outlook - It NEVER occurs using
Internet Explorer (in any capacity, such as saving graphics from the
web, etc.), Netscape, or any other program (such as web based e-mail,
pop mail using Outlook Express, Netscape mail, Eudora, etc.) It ONLY
occurs with Outlook (2002, Office XP install... and yes, I've tried
repair and new/reinstall of Office XP), so I would think the topic and
request for a solution should remain in the Outllook newsgroup. If
I'm missing something regarding this, please educate me.

The problem indeed exists for Outlook alone as well. This is a known issue
