Problem Running Scandisk

I've been trying to run scandisk on my computer, but keep
having problems. I click on Start and then click on My
Computer and right click on C: Drive and then click
properties. Then I click on the Tools Tab and then click
Check Now. I them put a check mark in both of the boxes
and click Start. I then get the message telling me that
it'll run scandisk when my computer restarts, so I
restart my computer and it'll go through step 1 of 5, and
when it starts step 2 of 5 a blue screen flashes with a
problem or error message on it, but it doesn't stay there
long enough for me to read it. Any help will be greatly
appreciated...

Try selecting only the first option box for the error
checking tool, for auto fixing file system errors, and
also uncheck the option for automatically restart, which
is in system properties, then the advanced tab, and
select "startup and recovery" settings button, and look
under system failure.
