Problem running Access

Dave S.

Windows Vista. Have installed Office (Enterprise) 2007, and all components
run OK except Access. Have tried the repair function to no avail. The
diagnostic tool says nothing is wrong, so I've uninstalled and reinstalled
Office. Again, everything runs OK except Access.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks

You give us no information to go on. What happens when you try to run
Access? Do you get any error messages?

If Access comes up, but none of the buttons or controls work, it is probably
your security setting. See if there is an 'Options' button right below the
ribbon. If so, click it and then click the 'enable content' radio button.

If this is the problem, look through the security features to see how you
want this handled long-term.

What "doesn't run"? Can you not open Access at all, not open any database, not
open some specific database? Do you get an error message, or a crash, or does
your monitor catch fire?

More details please!

Thanks for replies, and my apologies for not giving enough detail!

Quite simply, when I try to open Access the hard drive spins for a while,
but other than that nothing happens. The application does not launch and
there are no error messages.

Since posting the original message I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling
Office 2007 and it hasn't made any difference. There were no apparent
problems during installation, and all the other applications open and run
correctly, but not Access.

No error messages, nothing crashes, and the monitor hasn't burst into
flames - just my temper!!!

Dave

Hello All,

Pleased to report that after a couple of hours of ******* about, I've
managed to sort this out. It seemed that when I uninstalled Office, Access
was not completely removed for some reason (possibly due to it being
corrupted?). So, I removed eveything I could find and then ran a registry
cleaner. After that, the whole suite installed OK, including Access.

Thanks for taking the trouble to reply.

I just ordered copies of two separate Vista Resource Kits and they
haven't arrived yet, but the Office XP Resource Kit (p. 206) discusses a
Removal Wizard that can be customized to be more aggressive about
uninstalls. I haven't tried using the /a (aggressive) switch or any
other "risky" combination, but it might be something to keep in mind for
the future. A note on p. 207 indicates that the Removal Wizard may
require administrator permissions. BTW, try using this at your own risk.
