.problem repairing windows.

Something happened to my windows XP profile. Most of my start menu is empty.
the system restore always fails. I am trying to run the repair from the cd.
when I get to where it asks for the administrator password, it doesnt like
my password. There is one account,mine, with me designated as the
administrator. It wont let me make a user account named administrator. It
says there is already an adminisrator. I tried clearing my password, but it
doesnt like that either. I'm stuck. Does anyone know how to get past this

When it asks for the administrator password try leaving it blank and
hitting enter.

Thanks for replying, I already tried that.
I found in another post about doing three finger twice and logged into the
administrator account and created a password (same as mine), apparently
there hadnt been one before.
Now when starting repair console, i enter the pass word and it drops to the
c prompt.

Try passing the first repair the CD offers by "Entering past it", and going
to the second Repair option. I believe that's where you want to be.
