Hi John :)

You don't mention the version of Windows you are using, which really is a
must when asking for help in the newsgroups, but, try the following as it
may apply
to your OS and see if it helps:

Kelly's site has a fix which changes the IsInstalled flag value to 0. =

For SP1 -
This enables reinstallation of IE.
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/ieinstall.reg

Just download and double-click, then proceed to reinstal IE.

For SP2 -
If you have SP2, you will first have to uninstall it. Then run the utility
as descripbed above.
Ieinstall.reg simply makes the registry edit that's called for in the 2nd
half of
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=318378
or ..
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm (line 114, right)

If still no joy, do a System Restore to a date/time prior to when you
installed the IE7.

Hope this helps.

I'm using xpsp2. Yesterday I had some issures with my scanner driver which
made it necessary to repair xp. I forgot that you need to uninstall ie7
before doing a repair. Now what. 6 won't reinstall and 7 says it's install.
wonder if I could find wininet ver 7.######## if that would make 7 work
again. Is there a way to manually remove ie7 so you can reinstall it?

Hi Bear :)

It is a problem that is happening to many IE7 Beta testers. Try this and
see if it helps:

How to Uninstall IE7 Beta 2 when uninstall files are deleted
http://pinoytech.blogspot.com/2006/03/how-to-uninstall-ie7-beta-2-when.html

After a successful uninstall, then go to Kelly's site and get the fix which
changes the IsInstalled flag value to 0. =

For SP1 -
This enables reinstallation of IE.
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/ieinstall.reg

Just download and double-click, then proceed to reinstal IE.

If still no joy, then either do a system restore to a date and time prior to
the install of IE7 or a repair install to return IE6. OR....go to the IE7
Beta 2 newsgroups at microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general newsgroup.

On the web:
http://www.microsoft.com/communitie...?dg=microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general

In your newsreader:

Hope this helps.

Hi John :)

Try the following and see if it helps:

NOTE FOR SP2: If you have SP2 installed you will first have to uninstall
it before doing the steps below. Then do the Registry steps or run the
utility as described as follows:

Unable to Install Internet Explorer 6 on Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304872/en-us

How to reinstall or repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows
XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q318378
Scroll down to Setup has detected a newer version of Internet Explorer
already installed on this system. Setup cannot continue. (in red print)

or ..

Step-by-step instructions for a manual fix: If you have SP2, uninstall it
before doing the following:

First, go to Start>Run>type in regedit and hit enter
Click on File on the toolbar and click Export to back up your Registry.
Make sure you make a not of where it is saved in case you need to restore
it.

To reset the IsInstalled value to 0 (zero):

Go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>Microsoft>Active Setup>Installed
Components>scroll down to {89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}]

Here are the "How to" steps to reset the value:

When you have clicked on the above {...} file, scroll down to "IsInstalled"
in the right side panel and double click on it. A dialog box will open with
a window that has a 1 in it. To replace the 1, just type 0 (zero) to
replace the 1, click OK and close.
Then try the install again.

Or ..should you not feel comfortable working in the Registry yourself,
download the utility file at the link below, then double click on it to run
it and it will automatically reset the "IsInstalled" value to 0 (zero) for
you. Then try the install again.
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm (line 114, right)

After the successful reinstall by any of the above methods, go immediately
to the Windows Update website and let it scan your computer for any
necessary updates.

Again, if still no joy, then do the System Restore, or just do a Repair
install.

You will not lose your data with this process.

If that does not work, either go to the IE7 nesgroups as I suggested, or do
a clean reinstall of your Windows program. You will lose all your data so
back up what you can.

Hope this helps.
