Problem recording wav files

I have XP Home, P4 1600 MHz, and a 10 gig NTFS partition that I am using to save
..wav files to. I am using Creative Recorder Ver 1.04 to record streaming audio
from a radio station, unattended.

I have found that by recording for 3 hours, the file size is 1.77 GB. Hovering
the cursor over the file name, I find that:
Length- 179:48 minutes
Size- 1858447 kb
Original size- 1858447 kb

The file plays perfectly.

However, when I record for 3-1/2 hours, I get a 2.07 GB file, and:
Length- 0:00
Size- 2172732 kb
Original size- 0 kb

The file will NOT play using any playback means.

It seems that anything under 2 GB works, and anything over 2GB is no good.

I have done a lot of searching and can't come up with a reason for this, given
that I have NTFS partition, lots of room etc.

Can anyone shed some light on this? It would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Very likely the program has that limit; which was the file size limit
for FAT 16 on Win95, and is the maximum that can be held in a 32 bit
*signed* value. There should not be need for a sign of course in the
context, but the programmers may well have used the signed value
nevertheless

Thank you very much for that. You've likely hit the nail on the head. I've had
this Soundblaster Creative Recorder for years. I've simply updated the
Soundblaster drivers for XP. Yes, designed for Win95/98. It is the simplest,
easy to use recorder ever. It's just that recently, I've had occasion to record
a radio program unattended, and go back to find a snippet of content that I
wanted. I just know better now, not to let it go longer than 3 hours.
