I have a computer that seemingly every new file is fragmented. After
running XP's defrag or PerfectDisk, they report 0 (or perhaps a few)
files fragmented. There is plenty of disk space free (40+ GB). But when
I save a file and run the analyze function through either of those
tools, the file I just saved is at the top of the "most fragmented"
list and is in dozens, if not hundreds of fragments. And I'm not trying
to save a 30 GB file - my test file is 2MB.
Has anyone ever seen this behavior?
Below is the snippet from XP Defrag's analyze. The excel file is one
I've tried saving to different locations trying to figure out if the
problem is limited to a particular directory (which it doesn't appear
to be). I don't believe I've done anything wacky with my disk settings.
Thanks for any pointers.
