Problem reading CD/DVD - previous disc's data is displayed

Hello,

I am having trouble getting my PC to read CDs / DVDs, after I remove one
disc and inster a new.

I am trying to install some software, which is on two discs.
I have installed disc one, and am then prompted to insert disc two.
When I insert disc 2, I then click on ok, but the install program just kepts
on asking for disc 2. I think it still thinks I have disc one in the drive.

When I look in Explorer, it shows me the files that are on disc 1.
Even if I do refresh, it is still showing me the contents of disc 1.
When I click on one of these files, I get the message that the file does not
exist (which is expected , because that disc is not in the drive unit)

I have tested this with other discs, and the same thing is happening - I
remove one disc, and insert another. But I cannot run or use the data on
this second disc. When I go into Explorer, it is always only showing what
was on the first disc.

I have to reboot, which resets things and this allows me to access the disc
I want. But then I have the same problem again, if I insert a new disc after
that.

This is a relatively new PC - two months old.

I have Windows XP SP2 installed, and all the high priority updates are done.

On my machine, I have Norton anti-virus, if that has anything to do with it.

I am using : NEC DVD_RW ND-3540A. I checked on Microsoft, but there were
no updates necessary for this unit.

I really do not know what I do to fix this.

Any advice ??

Ian.
