problem opening pictures in my email

I have always been able to open pictures that people send me via email.
However, recently my son used my computer to download pics from his camera.
The next time I tried to open a picture in my email, I got a message saying
it was being opened in a Photoshop trial version that is good for 60 days. I
assume this was something bundled w/his camera. It was still difficult to
open them, but I could. Now that Trial version has run out and I can no
longer open pictures. It tries to open them w/the Photoshop. I then get a
message telling me the trial has run out and do I want to buy. How do I link
pics I want to open w/a different software program? I don't know what opened
them before. But I want to associate the pics w/something else so that they
will open normally. Thanks for any help you can give me.

The Quikest solution would be to simply re-associate the pictures with
whatever application you used prior to the installation of PhotoShop.

In Windows Explorer, browse to a folder containing the photos and
right-click on one of the graphics files. Select "Open with... > Choose
Program...." High-light your preferred application, make sure there's a
check mark in the "Always use this ...." option. Click <OK>.

It's not the pics that are stored on my computer I have trouble opening.
Those open fine. It's pics I receive via email. For example, someone sent me
a joke email w/a picture attached. I click on "download attachment." then
select "open". What used to then open as a picture, now tries to open using
the photoshop software that I technically never had. It gives me the message
saying the trial software is expired do I want to buy. I say "no" and then
nothing. No picture shows. I need to know how to tell the computer to use
something else to open picture attachments. I've tried looking in the
properties for internet explorer but there is nothing there.

I found the program that was installed w/sons camera. I removed anything
related to it. I can now open pics in email because the computer is no longer
searching for that program.

Pictures can have different file extensions.
Bmp, gif, jpg, jpeg, etc.
Each extension could be opened by a different program.
The email attachment had a different file extension, so it was opened by the
trial software.
If you had followed Bruce's advice, you would have been able to fix your
problem.

No it wouldn't have. I was not having problems w/the pics on my computer.
Those opened fine. When I went to email online and tried to open a pic I
couldn't because it was looking for that program. When I right clicked on
this pic as he instructed me to do, there was no "open with" only "open".
When I clicked this it tried to open it the same way and couldn't because I
no longer have the program. I simply deleted the program from my hard drive
and the computer now uses a different program to open the pics . It works
fine now. Even when I right clicked on the pics that are already on my hard
drive, there was no "open with." They also had the same extension.

You didn't say "email online" before.
Does that mean you are accessing your email with web access?

Are you right clicking on the file or the picture?

This is what I have with a right click:

It was both my email online and my email directly on my computer. I can
access either way. Neither of them were letting me open pics. I was right
clicking on the picture (although tried the file also). I "think" I had some
of the same choices you listed. There was no "open with" as I was instructed
to use. Only "open." This still tried to open pic w/program I no longer had
access to. I'm just happy it's working now!
