Problem opening file with home application

I have a home application runing on winXP, when i get file
from another computer containing data (text file ) this
application connot open it. all permissions are set
correctly and when I do that on win2K everything works
fine.
Any Idea, do I have to change settings somewhere.

Did you also install the program that created the file on
your Windows XP computer? One cannot open specific program
files without the specific program having been installed first.
