Problem of Jumping Letters !

H

Hari Hari Mau

Hi all !

The other day I was using my friend's notebook to type a letter, and I
found something really weird. I am sharing it here with all in the
hope that someone may have seen this problem before and perhaps can
help diagnose what's wrong.

The laptop was a Dell, quite new too, with duo core or something.

I opened up the Microsoft Word and start typing. It went okay for 5
minutes or so and then the letters started jumping !

I mean, the words like scrolled up, and then down, and then sideways
or whatever. I thought something was wrong with the Microsoft Word on
his machine, so I quickly saved whatever I've typed, closed down
Microsoft Word, and power up OpenOffice.

When I used OpenOffice to load whatever I've saved, again the whole
thing went okay for couples of minutes. Then the same damn thing
happened. Words and letters started jumping again !

I closed down all applications, thinking that maybe the machine has a
bad video card or whatever. But when I'm at the desktop (you know,
that rolling hill thing), everything was all right ! I mean, no
jumping rolling hills at all.

I clicked on the newsreader "agent" (from forte) and see if things
jumped there or not. Long and behold, the columns and rows _inside_
the "agent" application jumped !

And I tried several other "word base" applications such as "notepad",
"wordpad" and in all those applications, letters and words jumped !

It was truly weird !!

If I clicked on applications such as "video player" or whatever,
everything was okay, but if I use word-based applications, letters and
words jumped.

Dear all, has anyone ever had this weird thing happened to them
before?

I dunno if it's a virus thing, or a trojan, or anything. It wasn't my
machine so I didn't do a scan or something.

I did ask my friend about that, and he told me that this weird thing
began to happen 2 weeks ago. He said that he would send the notebook
back to Dell to be fixed later.

The thing I want to know is, what actually happened. I know this ain't
my problem, is just that I'm curious, and if anyone here has had this
experience before and know the diagnosis, would you please share it
with me?

Just want to know what has happened, that's all.

Thank you !!

Sounds like a virus or perhaps malware. Reboot the machine in Safe Mode and
see if the problem persists. And please go easy with your crossposts . . .
