Problem Mapping External Hard Drives with Media Center 2005

I have tried two (one USB and one firewire) external hard drives now
with an
HP Media Center PC (Windows XP 2005).

I get same symptoms with both drives. Using control panel
/administrative
tools I can see assign drive letter to the drive. However I can never
see the
drive with My Computer. I downloaded Tweak UI. The drive is visible and
checked.

Both drives work perfectly with my other XP Home Edition PC.

Click Start / Run / diskmgmt.msc {OK}, then create the desired
partition, format it and make sure to assign a drive letter to it.

diskmgmt.msc brings up same menu as control panel / administaive tools
/ computer management / disk management

I can see format etc the disk from here. However My Computer will not
see the disk. The strange thing is that if I select explore disk from
control panel / administaive tools / computer management / disk
management it will momentarily (English not American usage) open the
disk - and then quickly switch to My Computer without the disk being
visible. Clicking 'Back' reveals disk contents - but disk is still not
visible in My Computer...

diskmgmt.msc is a fast way to get into Disk Management.

You write "I can see format etc the disk from here." It is not
sufficient for you to ***see*** it; you must actually ***perform***
these actions:
1. Partition the disk.
2. Format it.
3. Assigna drive letters.
