Got Win XP at OS already, but want to reinstall this.
Cannot format, so I start to install from the win-xp cd.
The computer reinstalls, and a second boot option
appears, Microsoft Windows XP Setup. I choose this
option, and a blue scrren comes up, saying this is the
windows setup. My screen then goes blank, with som red
dots on it. Then nothing more happenes.....this happens
again and again!

Tried reebooting the computer with the cd, but then I get
the message: No bootable disk exist!

Anyone who can help me out?

Hi, KS.

Is this the BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) that says Stop 0x7B,
Inaccessible_Boot_Device? Or some other message? Please quote it verbatim,
along with any codes in the blue screen. Even if it looks like gibberish to
you, it probably would mean a lot to anybody with the knowledge to help you.

Also, at what point do you see the message? Before WinXP starts to load?
After the desktop appears? After all your icons are in place? Or is this
during WinXP Setup, when it tries to boot from your HD for the first time?

You need to start completely over from scratch:

The Windows XP CD is bootable and contains all the tools necessary
to partition and format your drive. Follow this procedure and allow
Windows XP to partition and format your drive:

1. Open your BIOS and set your CD Drive as the first bootable device.
2. Insert your Windows XP CD in the CD Drive and reboot your computer.
3. You'll see a message to boot to the CD....follow the instructions.
4. The setup menu will appear and you should elect to delete the existing
Windows partitions, then create a new partition, then format the primary
partition (preferably NTFS) and proceed to install Windows XP.

5. Clean Install Windows XP

6. After installing Windows XP, be sure and visit the support website
of the manufacturer of the computer to download and install any
available Windows XP compatible drivers, such as video adapter
and audio drivers.

7. It would be best to physically disconnect all your peripheral hardware
devices, except for you mouse and keyboard, before installing XP.
After XP is installed, visit the support website of the manufacturer
of each hardware device to obtain the latest drivers or software
designed to work with Windows XP.

I am trying to install XP on my computer. I've booted it
from the start, and a blue screen called Windows Setup
appears. At the bottom of the screen a list of drivers
etc is searched for. After a while, the text Please Wait
appears. Then, after a few seconds, my screen becomes
black, with loads of red stripes/dots on it. Nothing more
happens, and I have to restart my computer without the
installation completed....

Never done this before, but the same thing happens over
and over again, so i'm quite sure that it is not because
of me...

Hi, KS.

Everything sounds normal - right up to the point where the screen turns
black - and that's definitely NOT normal. But, you knew that. :^{

Tell us about your computer: Make and model, or mainboard/CPU/chipset if
you built it yourself. How many HDs, and how they are partitioned? What HD
interface: IDE, ATAPI, SCSI, USB, SATA? What graphics card? A basic
description of your computer hardware might keep us from sending you down
some blind alleys, and somebody here just might recognize your model and
have had some experience with it.

The Stop 0x7B I mentioned earlier is the typical symptom of needing updated
drivers for the HD/controller/chipset combination. It's very common when
installing Win2K on systems with the big HDs on the market today, which were
not available in 2000 when the Win2K CD-ROM was produced. That error seldom
appears with WinXP, but it might pop up if you were trying to install onto
an exotic new drive for which the driver is not on the CD.

If you have an uncommon graphics card for which the WinXP CD-ROM does not
have drivers, that could probably cause the weird screen you are seeing.

When I was trying to install Win2K three years ago, I had months of
frustration trying to solve problems that I eventually learned were caused
by IRQ conflicts between my several PCI cards. This was solved partially by
swapping the cards into different slots on my mainboard. But it was not
solved completely until I flashed an updated BIOS into my mobo. Have you
updated the BIOS on your computer?

I'm running out of ideas, but give us more details about your system, and
somebody here may be able to help.
