Problem in opening websites

Hi,

I am getting problems in opening certain websites. I have tried using
IE, Firefox and Opera and the problem persists in all three of them.

Whenever i perform certain actions in some websites like
mail.yahoo.com and facebook, the browser is unable to show any
response from the site.

1. in mail.yahoo.com
i use the beta version of yahoo mail. in case of beta version,
it does not show the selected mail. the lower pane just has a message
"could not load the message" if i double click on msg subject so that
it should open in another tab (sub-tab i should say i guess) .. the
msg is "there was no XML in the response". if i open the same
mail.yahoo.com in IE or Opera, the operation gets timed out.
I have tried using the classic version of mail.yahoo.com, but
there if i have opened a msg, and then try to go to next or the
previous msg, the browser gets timed out (the msg is "The connection
to the server was reset while the page was loading.") . If i delete
the yahoo cookies and then again try to go to the next msg, i can see
the next msg. I have to delete the cookies again. if i want to see
another msg. each time i want to see a msg i have to delete the
mail.yahoo.com cookies in the system.
The problem is duplicated in IE and Opera. So it does not seem to
be a browser specific problem.

2. in facebook.com
if i try to do certain actions in facebook, such as inviting
some friends for scrabble, the browser is unable to get a response
from the server. the message i get is "the connection to server was
reset when the page was loading" for other actions or general
browsing, there are no problems.

3. on http://www.hijackthis.de/
I tried analyzing my hijackthis log online on that site. after
pasting the logfile and clicking the analyze bvutton, the browser says
its waiting for a response from the server. This response never comes.
and the connection is timed out after sometime. the message was "The
connection to the server was reset while the page was loading."
IN IE and opera, the connection is timed out.

4. on http://hjt.networktechs.com/
I tried analyzing my hijackthis log file here as well. Here too
after clicking on the parse button, the browser keeps waiting for a
response from the server and after sometime gets timed out. the
message was "The connection to the server was reset while the page was
loading." In IE or Opera the connection is again timed out.

I don't think this is a browser problem, because it is replicated in
all three browsers , IE, firefox and Opera. I have tried reinstalling
my system but the problem persists.

I dont think it is a network problem either. I have another laptop on
the network which is not facing any problems. It also has windows XP
installed, but as it is an official laptop, i cannot try to replicate
the settings on that laptop.

I am using windows XP SP2. I am connected to the net through a
broadband modem and then a motorola VOIP phone modem.

Any resolution would be nice. I think this problem is just a symptom
of something else being wrong with my OS. I dont understand why the
connection to the server would be reset every time i am performing
certain actions on some particular sites. especially why cant i
analyze my hijackthis log online.

Any help would be much appreciated. I have been googling over the past
week, but couldnt find any suitable response.

if you would like, i can paste my hijackthis log file here itself.
