KB 942615 Killed my connection

E

Elmira

There have been 2 windows updates recently that relate to IE 7. They are
KB939653 in Oct. and KB 942615 today. After installing (and rebooting) with
each of them, my IE browser would not connect. Opera worked fine so my
connection was definitely working. Today on the status line it showed the
following: res://ieframe dll.dnserror.htm#. I got my connection back using
System Restore with WinXP home.

Has anyone else had (and solved) this problem?

Thanks.

Check whether the updates failed or were successful.

Select, Start, Help and Support, Keep your Windows up- to-date with
Windows Update, Review your Update History and click on the Failed Icon
(if any) in the Status Column. What does it say for the failed update??

Hope this helps.

Hi Elmira,

Are you using a third-party software firewall?

Error message after you install a Windows Internet Explorer 7 update
from Windows Update or from Microsoft Update: "Webpage cannot be
displayed"

I called Microsoft and they said I would have to uninstall my antivirus then
install the IE patch then reinstall the AV. I said forget it.

They probably said to disable the real-time protection in your antivirus,
then renable it after the install. Not a very hard task.

Nope they absolutely said to uninstall McAfee (or any AV you have).
Today I gave it a 3rd try with McAfee AV and firewall disabled but it gave
me the same problem connecting (WinXP home) so I am giving up on this patch.

FWIW, I disabled McAfee on my laptop (XP Media Center) and the patch
installed with no problem!
