problem importing a .pst file

I'm trying to import an outlook.pst file into Office/Outlook XP. Whenever I
do, I get an error message that says "pst file is not compatible with this
version of the Personal Folders information service". I believe that the
..pst file in question is an Outlook 2003 file. A Google search for this
error message returned some hits that indicated this error message usually
appears when trying open an Outlook 2003 in older version of Outlook. Isn't
XP newer than 2003? Anyway, more importantly, how do I get around this?
Any help would be much appreciated.

If it is indeed a file created with Outlook 2003, you will need that program to open it. You can then export to a .pst file created with the older format.
