Problem: HP printer not printing.

I installed a new deskjet 3550 and printed 5-6 pages to test it. It
worked fine. Now, a week later when I need the printer to do some work,
it doesn't print. It just sits there, sometimes taking some paper in
and then stopping. I managed to print a calibration page after many
tries but then it stopped again. Any suggestions?

If WinXP, go here: http://www.coribright.com/Windows/

I dunno. If you read the link then you would not be asking this
question.

Please stop the puzzles and help (if you want to help). There isn't my
problem on that page.

Life is fun

I found that HP's help desk and toll free support was wonderful when I was
having a DIFFERENT initial problem

If you haven't tried this, turn off the printer, whut everything down and
turn off the power to the printer, computer, etc. After a half minute or so,
restart everything which sort of reboots the printer and everything else.
You probably have done this along the way, but I thought I'd mention it
anyway

Uninstall the printer, shut the system down, then restart. Download the
latest drivers from HP at their website, then try to reinstall the printer.
This should resolve any software problems such as corrupt drivers. If it
still fails, contact HP since this may be a hardware problem and may be
covered under warranty.

No puzzle. The first step in any printer problem with WinXP is to
deinstall the printer driver, clean up the server definition, and
reinstall the printer driver exactly as Cari suggests on this site. If
that is done, then you can be assured that at least the OS component of
printing is correct and if the problem persists, it might then be a
mechanical failure in the printer. Problems such as you are
experiencing are frequently due to improper or failed printer driver
installations in WinXP. If you want to verify this for yourself, spend
some time at
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windowsxp.print_fax and
read through the postings, many of which are repetitions of your
original post.

I found out what the problem is. I had "show print preview" enabled and
that would stop my printing jobs. I don't know why. If a print preview
is given, it doesn't print. If it isn't given, it prints. Anybody ever
seen this?
