I'm sure this has probably been discussed before, but can anyone
tell me what would cause this error message in a brand new Windows
Vista (Gateway) desktop computer, and how exactly to get rid of it?

I can't tell if it's spyware, a virus, or just something I might've
done wrong. We just got connected to the hi-speed Internet, and surfed
the web for only about five minutes, before the blue screen error
appeared.

Thnx,
Kenny

You supplied too little facts. :-(

Please provide somemore info try to use http://housecall.antivirus.com

Thanks for your reply, and also the other two gentlemen who replied
so promptly.

The problem went from bad to worse, so the Gateway tech said to take
it to our local Best Buy, which we did yesterday. Since it is a
brand new computer, and as of yesterday wouldn't even boot up in safe
mode any more, they thought it is probably some sort of catastrophic
hardware failure, bad hard disk, or maybe a bad mother board.

They promised to fix it, or replace the whole box with a new one, if
necessary. It's my daughter's first computer. She cried when it
stopped working. I felt so bad, so I thought I'd ask around here for
some expert help, before calling Gateway's tech support, and getting
transferred to some third world trainee who speaks broken English.

But Gateway's tech support was surprisingly helpful. Hopefully,
this problem will never crop up again.

At least you're able to hang on to your hopes.

Hi Kenny.

I can understand that desperate feeling.

Its always right to go back to the seller because that's where the buck
legally rests. If if don't work out of the box its there problem.

That said its how you bought it. At the shop? Online? Where.

The Shop is first stop. They got to fix or replace. Online is harder. I
would go for the two week send back clause in that case. If to late to go
that route its the telephone pain line. Best to get a friendly computer geek
to do the call for you. You need a degree to follow some of the advice.

Al else fails take it to a local computer builder store at ask them to check
it at their going rate. Tell them its a claim job first.

The problems is with windows vista, and it is coming from the memory dump.

windows vista has problems with some softwares, and cause memory dump to
crash the computer. once that happened the more you try, the worse it get.

I build my own pc, so I have to fix whatever problem come up.

1) The solution is to remove the memory dimm ( pc off ), and turn the
computer on.
2) put the memory back, turn pc back on is safe mode.
3) restart the computer as normal.
