problem editing shapes

K

Kim

When I try to edit a ready-made shape that I have inserted by clicking and
dragging on one of the edit points, the shape automatically defaults to a
seemingly preset vertical height. No matter what adjustment I attempt
(width, height, or diagonal), the shape snaps back to this preset vertical
height. The shape can be stretched out in width but not height. I am,
however, able to make height adjustments if I open the Size and Position
dialog box and click on the up/down arrows. But, the convenient
click-and-drag adjustment to a ready-made shape is impossible.

What could be wrong?

I have downloaded the one service pack available, but the problem is still
there.

Hi Kim

It sounds like the autoshape text box settings are set to autofit (there
doesn't have to be text in the shape for this to happen) - right click the
shape -> format autoshape -> text box -> select 'do not autofit'. After
doing this, right click & 'set as default shape' to stop this happening on
your future shapes.

Yes, that did the trick. Thank you very much!
