problem creating new user profile

T

T Brown

I suspect my administrator profile is corrupt and am trying to copy files
into a new profile per MS Article ID 811151. When I "explore" my hard drive
("C"), and open "Documents and settings," I don't see my old or new profile
there. I see my wife's ("Bonnie") and the rest are "Administrator," "All
Users," "Default User," "HP_Owner," and "Owner." What am I doing wrong? (I
created new profile
in User Accts in Control Panel.

One of these is your old user profile folder:

1. HP_Owner
2. Owner
3. Administrator

If the old user account still works, login to that account and type %userprofile% in Start/Run and press ENTER. This will show the user Home path for that user account.

If not, download "SIDList.vbs" from http://windowsxp.mvps.org/utils/ and run the script. The User Account names, their SIDs and the Profile folder paths will be listed in a log file, and opened automatically. The output looks like this:

== Output ==
Username : Administrator
SID : <SID>
Profile dir : G:\Documents and Settings\Administrator

Username : Guest
SID : <SID>
Profile dir : G:\Documents and Settings\guest

Username : Ramesh
SID : <SID>
Profile dir : G:\Documents and Settings\Ramesh
===========

And, regarding the new user profile, the profile folder will be created only after logging on to the user account atleast one time.
