Problem creating a new bullet style

Hi everyone,

I'm having a problem creating new bullet styles in Word 2003. When I create
a new bullet style, I base it on an existing bullet style, and then change
the type of bullet and add the new style to the template. The problem is that
the style I based the new style upon loses its bullet in the styles. I've
tried numerous permutations, such as not adding the new style to the
template. I seem to be able to make other types of changes to the new style,
such as bolding the text, without affecting the base style. For some reason,
I can't seem to keep the original bullet in the base bullet style and add a
new bullet style at the same time. Your help would be very welcome.

There seems to be a consensus to not build bulled (or numbered, or
outline numbered) styles upon each other. I used to do it when the
styles are part of the same outline, but if that's not the case, there's
really no reason to do it.

So, base both bullet styles on your normal bodytext style. From then on,
their "bulletedness" should be independent. :)
