Problem after Windows Update

After a recent Windows update, I suddenly began getting this new popup
whenever I restart the computer:

"Could not load file or assembly 'MOM.Implementation,
Version=2.0.2736.38608, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=90ba9c70f846762e' or
one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified."

No message shows in the blue bar atop the popup window, and no other
information than what I have shown above. When OK is clicked, nothing out of
the ordinary happens.

Does anyone recognize the technobabble listed in this popup, and might
anyone know what it is, and how to get rid of it?

Now, on top of everything else, if I attempt to use Windows Media Player to
play any DVD, my computer just up and simply shuts down and does a total
system reboot, and when I use the Windows Error Report, I am told it is
because of a "stop error" caused by a device driver. I had downloaded a
Windows update for my on-board audio (CMedia CMI9761A, the CMedia website has
no driver updates more recent than 2004). But when I use my ATI Video player
or ASUS InterVideo WinDVD program, the DVD's play just fine.

I _think_ the update for my CMedia Audio Device is the culprit, as prior to
this, instead of Windows Media Player forcing my computer to just up and do a
total system reboot without any warning, I would instead get a "cannot play
this file" error that, on "web help," said there was a problem with my sound
driver. So I did Windows update and found the hardware update for my on-board
audio. The onboard audio chip in question has no updates from the
manufacturer more recent than 2004. Windows update had some kind of update
listed December 2005, however it only made te problem worse rather than
better.

My motherboard is an ASUS P4V8X-MX.

I'm having the exact same problem. I installed a recent version of ATI's
Catalyst driver program, which insisted that I install .NET 2.5.50727. After
I did that, Catalyst refuses to run, giving me the same error message you're
reporting.

If you figure out what the problem is, please send me a message at
(e-mail address removed).

Thanks!

I found the solution in another forum. This worked for me:

Hi pat,

Uninstall the Catalyst Control Center (not the drivers.). Reboot.
Re-Install the CCC, reboot.
e.g., C:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-3_xp_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_43737\CCC\setup.exe

This should cure the problem.

Thanks!
