problem after reformatting

i recently reformated xp.
but now it doesnt detect any sound device
what do i do?
is it the sound card or speakers?

Not a good idea to get driver updates from WU. Go to the device
manufacturer's web site or the computer OEM.

It's not the speakers. You have to install the drivers for your sound
card or onboard sound chips. If you have an integrated motherboard the
sound card drivers will/should be on the cd that came with the board. If
you dont know what sound card you have this often helps ID it:
