Problem After Installing Critical Updates

I installed the latest 3 critical updates through Windows
Update. When prompted to reboot I did. Now Windows XP HE
will not load. It's stuck at the black screen with the
flashing status bar. It will also not load in Safe Mode.
I also tried starting from "last known good
configuration," but that won't work.

Is there anyway to reboot to a restore point?
