Pro version of Adobe Acrobat doesn't allow me to replace words in PDF documents

Gurus,

Running Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional on Windows XP Pro SP2. I've opened a
PDF sent to me by another person and I want to edit it. I want to replace
certain words but all I can do is make a strikethrough and annotate a
comment. I though the Pro version of Adobe Acrobat would allow me to make
wholesale changes and not simply just minor editing comments?

There is NO way this question belongs here.

try:

comp.text.pdf or

adobe.acrobat.windows

Contact the person who sent it to you and ask them to send you an editable
pdf.
Pro does allow you to make changes but the person who created the pdf can
limit what you can change. If the document was scanned to pdf instead of
printed to pdf, you won't be able to replace words either.

The copy I have requires me to click on the typewriter in the tool bar then
click on the space I want to edit.

If there is a better way I'd like to know.

Is the PDF file you received an editable document?, or has it been created
as an image?

It depends on how the document was created as to what editing options will
be available in the PDF file.

How do I tell if the PDF file I received is an editable document versus
created as an image?

What does this have to do with XP?? NOTHING.

Ask elsewhere

It depends entirely upon what sort of specific change restrictions the
original creator of the document set.

The author did not enable the "allow changes" button.

One of the reasons to create a PDF file is that it can be made uneditable.

I believe you misspelled "misspelled"

No, you misspelt "misspelt".

"misspelled" is not an English word. It's some foreign word from a language
known as 'American'. This is a language spoken in a country that wrongly
believes that it speaks English when, in reality, it hasn't used the
language for over 2½ centuries.

I believe you misspelt "slightly more difficult to edit"

A PDF file can be made uneditable. Of course, you can't prevent anyone from
capturing the image and OCRing it back to a document. But you can prevent a
user from printing it, editing it and even copying and pasting it.
