Private Folder May Corrupt Pictures

I recently installed Microsoft's Private Folder utility. I liked the
ease of use and it seemed to work well. As a test I copied a few
pictures into the folder and locked and unlocked without a problem.

Then I unlocked the folder, right clicked and copied one of the files
and then pasted it back into the same Private Folder so I now had the
original and a "copy" of the test image in the folder. I then tried to
open the copied file and it will not open in any application nor will
it show in preview. The original image opens and previews fine.

I then tried the same thing on a second system with the same results!

Am I doing some type of illegal operation or is this a bug?

I confirm your findings.

I decided to stop using it and pictures and videos previously stored in
it (without using the encryption option) have been changed in some way
(fortunately I was able to compare the same file that had been stored
in the private folder and also in a zip file that was also in the
private folder) - I can see quite clearly that the binaries are
different for the JPEG's(from a Canon camera) . While thumbnails are
visible in both Explorer and in Paint Shop Pro 7 - the files can not be
opened and viewed - PSP reports "This is not a valid JPEF-JFIF file".
The video files - AVI files from a Canon camera - run in Windows Media
Player 10 but after 30s the machine locks up and has to be rebooted. I
tried other graphics and media players and all encounter the same
problem. The files have been corrupted or changed in some way.

Is there a way to repair the files?

For people googling the groups for the same thing - that should say
"This is not a valid JPEF-JPIF file".
