Private folder access

I reinstalled xp from scratch and with it, erased all my
user accounts. I had backed up the documents & settings
folder first though.

Now, with my new install, i cant access folders that were
set as private under properties -> sharing.

Is all hope lost, because i have some important files in
those folders
