prints different after saving document

(word 2003 - document with text plus image, a signature)

prints OK *if* not saved before printing, i.e. copy image into file
before printing.

prints wrong if saved, i.e. image PLUS thin line at the image border or
dots within the image area.

word 2000 is OK - no unwelcome artifacts printed after saving document!

How can this problem be fixed / avoided?
Why/how is word 2003 different than 2000 in this respect?

Thanks
Wayne

Signatures were scanned at high quality to bmp format and then
copy/paste into document

printer is ikon/canon iR110 ImageRunner

Try JPG image files. Word is probably converting them to JPG and doing a bad
job of it.

Thanks Troy.

I thought word simply added a WMF formatted element to the document,
used it for display purposes and didn't try to convert the original
image (inserted or pasted) for printing.

Is there any document or KB article that talks about this area of word?
