Printing under Linux

Hello!
Could someone explain printing process under Linux? (printer is USB). I
have HP PSC 1210 but can't configure it. Printer works fine, but under
Windows, which configures it authomaticly. Under Linux I cannot comply
even doing the same as described in HPinkjet project
(hpinkjet.sourceforge.net).
I even don't know what is wrong :-(
