Printing To Desktop Printer From Laptop Wirelessly?

P

Pegleg

My printer is connected to my desktop via USB...I also have a laptop
which I use wirelessly from various parts of the house via a wireless
router & cable modem.

Is it possible to print from my laptop to the desktop printer when
connected via wireless?

Using Win XP(SP2).

TIA

Hi,

Yes, it is. You simply need to first share the printer on the desktop. This
is done by opening the printers folder and right clicking the printer.
Select properties and check the appropriate boxes on the sharing tab. Next,
open the laptop and use the add printer wizard. You want to use the network
printer option, then navigate to and select the printer on the desktop (or
type in \\<computer_name>\<printer_share_name> in the path box).

I don´t see any reason why you couldn´t. Couple of things to check and
try out:

- computers are in the same workgroup (if no domain exists)
- check the IP configuration, computers must reside in the same network
- share the printer
- provide necessary drivers
- have sufficient rights and corresponding accounts on each computer to
attach to the shared printer
- in case of SP2, check the firewall policy

Here is some advice to start with.
