Printing problem

I just bought new pc with window xp home edition and
installed my old printer which is hp deskjet 720c.
When I tried to print my old word 97 files , half the
contents are missing and also when I tried graphics such
as photos, it does not print at all.
If I copy and paste simple word 97 document to notepad
then it prints ok.
My problem is 1) how to print word 97 documents and also
how to find out what format I neet to print my photos.
2) how to find out whats the format of a given document
or graphics is.

Could be a number of different reasons for this

1) When you created the original Word files, probably way back in 1997, you
had the Photo images on the same PC.... if you did not embed the graphics
into the final saved document, then they cannot be shown when you open them
on the new PC since the original photos are still on the old PC.

If you can go back to the old PC and check that the documents are saved with
the graphics embedded, it should solve the problem. However the files are
now going to be quite large (depending on the size of the graphics).... so
you may need to burn them to a CD rather than transfer them via floppy as
they may not fit.

2) Hold the mouse over the photo thumbnail in question in Windows Explorer
and it should tell you that format of the file and its size. If it's not
jpg, bmp etc, you may need to install whatever graphics program you had on
the old PC.
