hi, I have recently attempted to netwrok my printer several times! My printer
is directly connected to my desktop and prints without problem. I have shared
the printer, and when i attempt to network it through the network wizard on
my laptop, i have tried to search for a printer. When i attempt to connect to
the printer through typing in the printer name in the form of
\\server\printer i am 100% positive that i am doing this correctly, however
when i press next a message saying 'Windows cannot connect to the printer.
Either the printer name was typed incorrectly, or the specified printer has
lost its connection to the server. For more information click help.' But i
have typed it correctly!!!!

I am not totally sure about what 'maybe it has lost its connection to the
server' means.

Please please please help me

Well, check the shared printer's properties and make sure you are using the
printer's Share name. This may not be what you expect - eg. hplaserj.

If that doesn't work, try \\<IPaddressofServer>\PrinterShareName.

thanks for your help, but im a bit dumb when it comes to computers, how do i
find out the ip address of the server for where you put <ipadressofserver>

i have tried using my ip address but to no avail, i am wondering if the
problem is to do with the phrase 'or the specified printer has lost its
connection to the server.

You always get this message when Windows cannot find the shared printer.
The first thing to do is determine whether this is a general File and
Printer Sharing issue or something specific to this printer. What happens
if on the laptop you click Start/Run \\<NameofDesktop> ENTER?
