Hi everyone, hopefully someone can help me out there.
I'm trying to print multiple files from XP. I open the folder, select all
and right click and print. They are all printed in random order even though
the names are in correct order and the documents are created in sequence.
I've tried with .PDF files and Word files and still the same.? Any help
would be apperciated. Tried printer settings and different computers with
different printers and still the same. I've got XP professional with SP2.

Thanks.

The printer is printing them based on one property or another. Probably 'date
created', or modified. You must determine what sort order you want and use
that. Probably the easiest way to do that is to drop them, one file at a time
on the printer icon in the Printers folder. There are scripting alternatives
for sorting and printing, but I doubt you want to get into that.

hey, Mark, thanks for the reply. however tried all the attrubutes/properties
etc and still printing in Random order. Dropping each one in the printer
queue just takes a very very long time so I would really like to hight the
lot, drag to the print queue and print in the order listed in the folder?
Any more suggestions.
Thanks again.
Jack.

If you take the same group of files and print them, then do it again and
they print in the same order, then what's happening isn't random.

hey guys, thanks for your replies. I'v downloaded the Remote Queue Manager
and viewed the print jobs and they appear in the queue. I can click once on
name and it sorts the documents in the right order (by name). However they
still are not correct in the actual print queue.
Just tested something. There are 14 documents in PDF format names C1801 to
C1814 all created on same date. Each file was edited in order i.e. C1801
first down to C1814. If I hightlight the list of files and click on print
they appear randomly in the print queue. I repeated the same operation and
they appear in the queue the second time in a different order to the first
time. I'm totally in awe and getting more frustrated.

Any ideas?

Thanks so much again guy. Your help is really appreciated.

i had a similar problem printing multiple files from Word.
the folder i had them in was sorted by name alphabetically and that
was the order i wanted to retain.
everytime i did a right click and then selected print the order would
be different.
however, there was some logic to it: they were alphabetical but the
start point was different.
the key for my problem was which file i was hovered over when i right
clicked. i didn't pay any attention, but the problem was solved by
making sure i was over the first file ( the one at the top of the
folder view), and then they were sent and printed in that order.
problem solved. at least mine anyway.
saying that, i tried this process again today after not using if for
some months and now i can't print any multiple files at all!!!
i can print a single document in that way, but if i select two or
more, nothing happens.
what a bummer!
hope it helped,regards
