Hey all,
I have a printing issue, when you try to print anything,
no matter if its from Excel (2002) or Internet Explorer (v
6.0) it will only spool 72 bytes and then stops, and you
have to delete the job. It also sometimes stops at 36.9
KB, but it hasn't finished a job today despite numerous
restarts. I know its alot, but any tips, no matter what,
would be very helpful!!

Thanks very much! :)

Has this just started happening or has it been happening regularly with this
printer?

Try deleting everything found in the spool directory.
Usually c:\windows\system32\spool\printers

This directory should be empty unless there is a print job in progress.

Let us know.

It has been happening off and on, but usually a reboot
would take care of things. This is the first time that it
hasn't. I did find Two files there in the spool dir, to
delete them i had to stop the spool service, and then i
did a reboot and went back in and they were gone. but it
still won't print. It still stops at 72 bytes. Anything
else you can think of? Could there be a resident print job
comming from a remote desktop session that was never
closed?

Thanks, Seth

Hmm...

For diagnostic purposes... install the HP LaserJet III driver. Turn the
spooler off. Try printing. Let us know.

Well, I found what was wrong. There is a switch box (a/b
switch) so that computer can use two printers with 1 LPT
port. The second printer is hardly ever used, so it
wasn't noticed when it was flipped by a different user.
The 72 Bytes thing must happen when there is no
connectivity with the Printer. Well, you live and learn.
Thanks VERY VERY VERY much for all your help, and sorry to
be such a bother. :)

Thanks,
Seth R.

I am having similar problems. I just began using my new
PC running XP. My Excel and Access files printed
perfectly on my HP Laser Jet 4 when using Windows 95.
Using XP, the print job stops part way through.
