Printing footnotes and page numbers in Outline

I'm using Outline View to collapse a large document that has a lot of
optional paragraphs. We typically collapse the sections that don't apply and
expand others regularly.

Several sections have footnotes, when I collapse that section I'd like the
footnote to disappear, but remain visible when it is expanded. This doesn't
happen. Instead, no footnotes appear when printed.

Also, the page numbering isn't correct when sections are collapsed.

Are there any solutions for my problems?

What version of Word?

You are printing directly from Outline View, so that you say Print, and you
get only the text that is visible right then, not the entire document?

I'm thinking you can't do anything about this. The footnotes are in a
different layer of the Word document. There is a text layer, which is
manipulated by Outline View. There is a footnote layer, but it has no
provisions for manipulating the notes as in Outline View. The programmers
would have had to deliberately code the footnote layer so that when you
selected View | Footnotes, it checked to see if you were in Outline View,
checked to see what you had expanded, and only showed those notes. I'm only
guessing about this explanation, but I suspect it never crossed their minds
to do so. You could make a feature request, but I doubt it would get
anywhere.

Similarly, when you print from Outline View, there is special coding to only
send the text visible right then. I'm not surprised it isn't smart enough
to bring along the footnotes.

When you say "page numbering isn't correct" when sections are
collapsed--what do you mean? It doesn't go 1, 2, 3?
