I'd like to do something similar to Excel, where you can print just the cell
comments of a document, as a guide for reading the document. Is there a way
to do that in Word? I see the option in print setting for "fields codes"
under the options of the print dialogue. I also see there's a "print what"
option called "list of markups". Is that the simplest way to go?

Hi Boris

You don't mention what version of Word you have. If you have Word 2003, then
do File > Print. In the "Print what" box, choose "List of markup". "Markup"
= comments + tracked changes. If you have tracked changes in your document,
and you just want to print the comments, then hide the tracked changes
before printing.

Hope this helps.
