printing borders/grid lines

I have developed an Excel document and I want to print it
with the grid lines showing. I have gone into page setup
and clicked on the box for "print grid lines". However the
grid lines don't show up in print preview and does not
print on hard copy. I have also tried putting borders
around all cells which does not help. What can I try?

When faced with this problem, I've tried heavier borders until they show
up. Admittedly, this is pretty lame. But I'd rather do this than mess with
print drivers and the like.
