printing Access 2003 reports to an HP LaserJet 3550

Whenever we try to print Access 2003 reports to our Color LaserJet 3550n
printer, we get the following error:

PCL XL error
Subsystem: Kernel
Error: ColorSpaceMismatch
Operator: VendorUniquea
Position: 9

We've contacted HP and they maintain this is an issue with Microsoft: "At
this time Access really needs a PS driver." It seems multiple people are
having this issue and have posted to HP's support forum but HP has not
offered a solution other than using a different model's beta driver. The
only update for Office that I can see would be relevant is SP2, which our
users have already installed.

Has anyone else seen this issue and/or found a workaround for it?

Yeah, avoid using HP products until they are mature enough to be considered
"obsolete".

We have been having the exact same error message with the same printer for
Access 2003 reports. This has been an issue for us for 3 months now. I
have posted to HP's forums, as well as this one, and have not gotten any
solution other than use a different printer.

It's a little reassurance to know others are having the same problem.
Please let me know if you find a solution. Thank you.

HP Laser Jet 3500 ColorSpace Mismatch Errors

This error is not specific for Access 2003, I have seen it with many applications and it seems to me to be graphic intensive related. Any thing that contains involved printing of graphics, pdf's, websites, etc., it will give this error. You can usually go back and print the page by choosing grayscale or manual under the color tab. Sometimes, if you print the pages one at a time it will also work. My take on this whole issue is HP made an inferior product that they have failed to rectify as this issue has been around a long time and nothing has ever been done to fix it. They should of taken this out of production a long time ago and replaced it or given people back their money as the product is not functional. I have to support several users and this printer has driven me insane...especially when you have a computer illiterate user like I had to deal with for a while. It's a piece of JUNK! HP got my vote for FLOP of the year on this one! There has been mention of success most of the time by using a PCL5e Driver. I plan on trying this next!
