When you get prints done at the professional printers the size 4 x 6 retains
the aspect ration correctly yet when I print on my computer the finished
print is NOT 4 x 6, though that is what was selected. Is there a program
that will print out at exactly 4 x 6 and retain aspect ratio just like the
professionals do?

Cropping to 6 x 4 (and lots of other dimensions) is very easy with
FastStone Image Viewer. It's a great program. Before the purists start
bitching, you can ignore the suggestion of a donation if you want.

If all of your graphics programs indicate that the aspect ratio is
correct, and all of them still print in an incorrect aspect ratio, it
sounds to me like you have a printer driver issue.

The manufacturer of your printer should have free software on their website
for their printers to do this. I have a Canon which has a free package, but
it only works with Canon printers, and I must say works well. Most graphic
programs will try to shorten or widen if you use the fit to page option. If
you set your camera to a wider image you may get better results, or try a
little cropping. You may loose a small section from the top or bottom, but
it will still be full aspect ratio and the main object of the photo will
still be in full.
Good Luck
