Printing a Downloaded template from Microsoft

Guest

I downloaded a 4 x 6 template from Microsoft but can't get it to print
properly. I put 4 x 6 photo paper into the printer but it prints as though
I have 8.5 x 11 paper in the printer and have to cut the 4 x 6 printing out.
Make sense. It's not set up for labels, it just says that it's 4 x 6 size.

Sometimes you just have to accept the limitations of your printer and use a
workaround, but first here's something you can try:

1. In a new Blank Document in Word, go to File | Page Setup.

2. On the Paper tab, scroll through the list of paper sizes. Is there one
listed for 4x6? If your printer can print 4x6 photos, I would expect that
there would be.

3. If so, you can correct the way this document prints; if not, you'll need
a workaround.

If you have 4x6 listed:

1. In the recipe card template, go to the Paper tab of Page Setup. You'll
probably see the size listed as Custom. A large part of what's wrong with
this template is that it is set up as Portrait with width 6" and height 4".
If you're trying to feed the card as Landscape, then obviously that's not
going to work. If that's the case, the first thing to try is change the
orientation to Landscape (this worked for me).

2. Go to the Margins tab and choose Landscape (assuming that's the way the
card is supposed to feed).

3. Go back to the Paper tab and see if your 4x6 size is now selected
instead; if so, then it will probably be okay.

4. Make sure that "Whole document" is selected for "Apply to" ("This
section" will be the default), and click OK.

5. Now try printing.

If you don't have 4x6 listed as a paper size in Word:

1. You'll have to set the card up on a Letter-sized sheet, so change the
paper size to Letter.

2. Adjust the margins to add the difference between the Letter size and the
card size. Where you add the difference will depend on where the card is
printing relative to the whole sheet.
