Printers won't print

Several applications, ranging from MS Excel, MS Word,
terminal emulation, etc. will not print. This only
happens occasionally. Not every time a print job is
sent. The little printer shows down by the system tray
and goes away, but nothing ever prints. The printers we
are having problems with are hp's, lexmark's, and ibm's.
I have tried completely uninstalling them using the
procedure that has been posted on here several times.
The problem still persists. Any more ideas?
