Printer won`t install!!!?

I`ve got a bit of a problem here, can somebody please help?.....The other day
my printer stopped working, I assumed it was clapped out because the computer
wouldn`t recognize it any more.
So yesterday I went & bought another one, nothing fancy just a basic HP
allinone, anyway, this new one would not install, I did it all by the book &
it kept coming up "missing or out of date USB.ini",hmmm, so I looked all over
the net for some kind of help..nothing!!
Stuff it!! today I took it back & exchanged it, again for a basic all in
one,but this one`s an Olivetti.
I`ve spent all day with this thing & Ive had enough now, again, everything by
the book, it installs the Olivetti software then ask you click finish & plug
in the printer USB. Which once done the "found new hardware" box pops up, it
even has the name of the printer, but when you click on install software it
can`t find it, even pointing it to the cd containing the software it still
won`t find it.
What`s going on people? Is this a simple problem that everybody knows how to
fix except for technical donuts like myself? or is it more sinister?

Hi Cari, as I said I did it all by the book, which is install before
connecting the printer. But I do have a bit of a problem uninstalling an old,
older printer, it`s in the add/remove programmes section, but. It comes up as
"cannot run in ms-dos, click cancel or ignore". If you click ignore nothing
happens!!
I read most of the posts in here before asking for help!!

could it be the USB ports are having a problem.
if so, in Device Manager, remove the USB Root Hubs.
shut computer down, wait 3-5 minutes.
power back up and all ow the USB hubs to be found and installed, then try the install again.

Hi Mikey,
I have 6 USB ports 1 with my mouse & 1 with my modem the other 4 are
free, I figured out which ones were being used by those two & uninstalled the
rest, it didn`t work, but thankyou anyway. The "found new hardware" pop up
comes up with the printers name, but just won`t find the software.
I`ve now heard of more of my friends who have had trouble with their
printers, it all seems to be stem from "service pack 2".

Hi Cari,
I`ve just found something else that you might be able to help with
regarding this printer problem of mine.
In the add/remove programs there is "epson printer software", when I go to
remove it, it says" C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt the system file is not
suitable for running ms-dos & microsoft windows applications."
I haven`t had that Epson for years!! I did a search for Epson files & it
brought up 3 folders:- Epson-C:\program files, Epson stylus c44
series-C:\program files\epson & epsonstylus_c445b48 -
C:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86.
Could this be my problem? If so how would I go about getting rid?
Cheers Chris
