Is there an inkjet printer that would meet the following criteria:

Cheap(ish)
Prints documents and borderless photos
Prints envelopes
Prints CD/DVDs
Takes compatible cartridges
Separate colour carts (3)
Good/acceptable text output in draft/economy mode (have this at present
with HP 970c)
Print both sides of paper
Network port (Ethernet or wireless)

Regards and thanks in advance

You may want to define "cheap(ish)"
And you did not mention cost of operating.
How much printing do you expect to do?

Sorry!

£40-£70?
Low cost per page
Mainly documents with occasional photos

Try the canon ip4200 (prices vary) although you will not have the Ethernet
connection. It can be connected to a printer server and used that way or via
a usb hub.

Righto... For CD printing, your options are limited to Canon or Epson.
There is no HP paper printer which will do CDs.

None of the Epson options I'm aware offer network. A wiser Epson
person might reccomend a bluetooth add on, but your only option in the
printer class is the Canon ip5200R, a used ip4000R, or perhaps one of
their all in ones.

But no compatable cartridges for the ip5200R, you gotta find a used
ip4000R for that, and it's a lesser printer, and you'll pay more.
Manual filling is an option.

Draft/economy mode is... if memory serves me... not at all as good as
the HP 970C... do help me out here #45a black cartridge? I didn't have
that exact model, but I had HPs which took the 45a, one of my
favorites, and there is no chance on this earth you'll enjoy draft mode
on either canon or epson once you've experenced draft on a 45a.

I love the canon for envelopes... both my ip3000 (now given to a
friend) and my ip5200 do these very well, 3x5 cards as well. Pigmented
black.... the best. You won't find pigmented black ink on the Epsons
which offer CD printing except the r800, a very spendy model with no
features... it's a great photo printer though.
