Printer subystem is not available

My pc doesnt seem to find any printer anymore. If i click
on ADD PRINTER i get one error saying that printer
subsystem is not available.

does anyone know what i can do??

the os is win2000 and my computer is connected to a lan
 
I had the same issue.
A printer installation was causing the spooler to shut down whenever that
printer was accessed.
Try starting the spooler.
If the spooler keeps shutting down then you will have to find out was is
causing the shutdown.

I had to edit the registry and manually remove the offending printer.
Then did a clean install using Windows drivers.
