printer sharing question

My home PC has a printer connected to it that I have shared. As far as I know
I haven't placed any security restrictions at all on it.

I can plug my work laptop into my home network and add the shared printer
and utilize it to print documents.

This works for a while and then all of a sudden it stops working.

When it stops working I have to delete the printer and re-add it again on my
laptop.
This used to work, but now even this has stopped working.
When I try to add the printer I am getting prompted for a username/password.
I don't know why I'm being asked for this becuase I haven't asked for any
security restriction on that shared printer.
When I enter a username/password I get an error message telling me that the
creditals supplied conflict with existing credentials.

Now I have to reboot both computers to get printer sharing to work again.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on here?
How do I tell Windows to stop prompting me for username/passwords when I try
to add the printer?
