Wireless network laptop can't add printer

My home network has a cable modem, a host desktop, a printer connected vis
USB to the host computer, a D-Link DI-624 router and one wireless laptop. I
am able to connect to the Internet with the wireless computer and the network
signal strength is excellent.

Both computers are using WinXP Home SP-2, the printer is enabled for
sharing, the wireless network is security-enabled, both Windows firewalls
have an exception for file and printer sharing, and the network connection
properties for both computers have File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft
Networks enabled. I can't think of anything else to check!

On the laptop I go to Start>Printer and Faxes>Add a Printer. The Add Printer
Wizard opens. Since my printer is not attached to a print server (I don't
think - is my host considered a print server?) I chose local printer attached
to this computer/Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer.
The Wizard cannot detect the printer.

Am I on the wrong track here? Advice please? Thanks!!!

Yes. Local=plugged in directly.

Choose 'network printer'.

Or don't use the wizard - browse to the desktop computer in network places
and right-click on the printer, and install it that way.

You're close, but no cigar. :)
